About Us

Over the past two years, we have had the privilege of visiting and working on Sto:lo land. This experience has opened our eyes to the unique challenges faced by communities in the Upper Coast Salish region and the barriers that still exist in accessing necessary care.

While providing optical services, we realized that there is much more we can offer beyond eyewear. We understand the specific vision needs of the Sto:lo communities, and we can assist with organizing appointments for eye exams, and navigating insurance coverage for First Nations individuals, including status and Pacific Blue Cross. By combining different insurance plans, we can create a comprehensive vision plan that maximizes coverage, honouring the efforts made by FN communities to secure adequate insurance.

Listening to stories of apprehension from FN individuals seeking care outside their communities has motivated us to bridge the gap and ensure that everyone has access to dignified and effective vision care. We want to be the link that connects individuals to the care they need while providing a supportive and understanding environment.

We are grateful that our personal growth journey, our love for the region and its people, and our awareness of institutionalized racism and indigenous-specific racism align with the current climate of truth and reconciliation. We are committed to continuing our own education and sharing knowledge with other vision care experts to address the existing obstacles to vision care.

We recognize that there is room for improvement in aftercare services, and we welcome feedback from our customers. Our technical staff can provide recommendations for a complete eye care plan, ensuring that individuals receive comprehensive and ongoing support for their vision needs.

At Owl Optical, our focus is on achieving what fell short of in the past, while being transparent about our journey and dedicated to continuous improvement. We are here to serve the Sto:lo and other First Nations Communities.
